Dear SVP Partners and Colleagues –
Like many of you, I am worried about what is happening in our world. While I know we are doing as much as we can to flatten the curve, the long-term impacts on our social change work are already starting to emerge. At times it feels overwhelming trying to figure out what comes next and how to lead our network through this moment, but I draw hope and inspiration from knowing that we are a community of do-ers and problem solvers.
Here are five things on my mind right now –
- What role do individual donors have in ensuring a strong social sector in addition to participating in rapid response relief funds?
- How can engaged philanthropists be proximate to the problems and the people with solutions in a time of crisis?
- How can we make sure individuals continue funding systems change, advocacy, collaboration, and social change infrastructure?
- Are there new experiments in philanthropy – new kinds of giving circles, new ways to engage with one another – that are possible now that were not possible before?
- What does power-sharing, co-creation, and trust-building between donor philanthropists and those left behind by our systems look like during, and in a post-COVID19 world?
SVP is primarily about community, connection, and relationship. It is with this spirit in mind that I hope we can continue to ask hard questions, innovate, and find new ways of moving forward. Our community of 3500 engaged philanthropists around the world, and the many social change leaders we work with, are well positioned to make sure that what emerges from this moment is a more equitable, more engaged, more resilient world. What can we, SVP International, and SVP Affiliates do together to ensure that future?
We will have two “All Partner” calls on Thursday, April 9th, for you to join with me and other Partners from around the globe. If you interested in participating, please RSVP below for more details including call times.
I look forward to being in strategy with all of you.
Onward,
Sudha
