2019 Community Grant – Giving Focus & Criteria:
Organizations must be registered charities based in Waterloo Region with the majority of their services focused within the region. Organizations may serve a specific geographical area within the region, or the region as a whole.
Applications will be accepted by email (email@example.com) until noon on March 29. Applications will be reviewed by the SVP Teens and a short list will be selected. Organizations will be notified of the status of their application by the end of May.
One organization will be selected in May/June 2019. They will receive a grant anticipated to be $3,000-4,000, to be used for the program described in their Community Grant application.
Follow-up and Site Visits:
Applications are read, scored, and discussed by the SVP Teens, who use a rating tool to score each application objectively. Criteria are weighted by importance and may include: fit with giving focus, program execution, financial health, funding sources, mission/program match, outcomes, and innovation.
Short-listed organizations must organize a site visit for our teens, and respond to any requests for necessary follow-up information. This is an opportunity for the teens to get to know the organizations and their programs, and to learn more about the grant-making process.
Based on applications, site visits, references, and other due diligence steps as determined by SVP Waterloo Region, SVP Teens will select the grant recipient in May/June. Their decision will then be ratified by our Board of Directors and announced publicly at our All Partners Meeting in June.

About SVP Teens:
SVP Teens is a youth-led philanthropic program that engages teens ages 13-19 in hands-on fundraising and grant making.
The goal of SVP Teens is to get young people involved in philanthropy at an early age and instill the desire to give and get involved in their community throughout their lives. The program is modeled after similar programs across the SVP network. It gives teens the same opportunity for philanthropic education and grant making that our adult partners have. In meetings from September to June, teens raise funds for their grant and learn about community issues.
