Donor Learning

Individual giving is one of the most powerful ways to use your voice. When you donate to a cause you care about, you’re joining a community of people who are working to make the world a better place.

Why should individual donors invest in global movements?
Expert movement guidance in this resource from: Maria Sjödin, Tamara Toles O’Laughlin and Jamila Headley.

Individuals who feel moved reach decisions much faster than a government, while the people who receive support feel seen and validated. I think that’s a process that is important for individual donors to see themselves be a part of.
Maria Sjödin is the Executive Director of Outright International, which works with partners around the globe to strengthen the capacity of the LGBTIQ human rights movement, document and amplify human rights violations, and advocate for inclusion and equality. Outright holds consultative status at the United Nations and has recently distributed more than $6.5M to LGBTIQ communities through its COVID-19 and Ukraine Emergency Funds.

She currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Grantmakers Association, which works to promote just, effective philanthropy for people and the planet.
