Everyday, children and youth in Waterloo Region and the surrounding areas become victims or witnesses of crime. For too long, there has been a systemic lack of support and advocacy for young people in the complex criminal court process, leading to lasting negative outcomes for youth and their families.
Since 1981, the Child Witness Centre has been working tirelessly to address these gaps in our community. They believe in a tailored approach unique to the situations of each young person they work with, providing them and their families with the tools to guide them through the court process and begin the stages of healing.
The Child Witness Centre has made significant strides in increasing the access to knowledge and resources on this topic within Waterloo Region. Alongside community partners, they led the 2016 establishment of the Waterloo Region Child and Youth Advocacy Centre. They also host an annual Youth Symposium, providing 4,500 Grade 8 students from Waterloo and Wellington with essential wellness information and life skills training.
