The importance of literacy — and the impact it has on kids like Gavin — was exactly the reason the organization Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region selected Strong Start as its initial investee in the summer of 2011.
Founded in 2010 by local business partners Tim Jackson and Jacqui Murphy, Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region pairs community leaders with non-profit organizations in an attempt to create long-lasting social change.
“The big idea is that we can do more as a group than we can as individuals,” says Jennifer King, executive director of Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region.
“We’re a community of like-minded individuals who pool their time, their talent and their financial resources, and invest in organizations that are poised to grow and make a difference.”
