Promising Early Results from Take a Hike

Posted by SVP Vancouver

Earlier this month, SVP Investee, Take a Hike Foundation, received an initial investment of $150,000 from the Ministry of Education to help with their scaling efforts.  The funds came after Take a Hike met with the Ministers of Education, Mental Health and Addictions, and Children and Family Development.

“We’re so grateful for the support of SVP,” says Take a Hike’s CEO Gordon Matchett. “Without it we couldn’t have done the research and development that was instrumental in receiving this initial support from the Province. Our work paid off! An executive staff member in the Ministry of Education remarked at how much more sophisticated our theory of change made our presentation. We now have an incredible opportunity to develop deeper relationships with the Ministers and their staff and to obtain greater support for our scaling plans.”

“I am proud to support innovative programs in our schools that help prevent students from falling through the cracks, and provide them with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school and beyond,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Education.

“Creating social relationships is crucial to the overall well-being, mental health, and development of children and youth,” said Judy Darcy, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “Programs like Take a Hike support at-risk students by providing them with an important sense of belonging and connection — to their peers, to the natural environment and to their community.”

SVP is proud to be a part of the amazing work Take a Hike is doing and excited to see what comes next!
