Getting to know Mealshare and Co-Founder Andrew Hall
SVP Investee, Mealshare, provides meals through a buy-one, give-one model. For every Mealshare item purchased in participating restaurants, one meal is provided to youth in need through charity partners.
We chatted with Andrew Hall about his background, the inspiration for Mealshare and how SVP investment makes a difference.
Tell us a little bit about your career and education background?
I attended the University of Victoria and participated in the co-op program. I graduated with a BCom in Entrepreneurship and my first job out of school was consulting at Deloitte as a Business Analyst. I was there about a year and a half there before Mealshare was up and running and ready for me to make the leap to full time work on our startup!
What inspires you to make a difference in the world?
My peers and I grew up with just the right amount of support and resources. We had enough to be healthy, educated, and infused with the belief that anything was possible. We were given everything we needed but not everything we wanted. As we grew, we came to the realization that there are people who are not as fortunate. This realization led to a great appreciation for what we have and an empathy for those who have less. I’ve always had a sense that it’s not fair that I was born where and when I was, and that I should help those who didn’t “get the lucky draw” like I did.
What (or who) brought SVP Vancouver to your attention?
Partner Shafin Diamond!
What is your favourite thing about working with SVP?
I feel that SVP does a good job in moulding their offerings to our needs so that we can get the most out of the amazing resources made available to us. It is not rigid, bureaucratic or time-sucking.
What is something interesting or significant that has happened in your organization since you’ve been working with SVP?
We’ve built relationships with several SVP Partners outside of the structured commitment and they’ve become more engaged supporters.
In terms of organization-wide milestones during this time, we are happy to report that we provided our two millionth meal to youth in need and launched the Mealshare program in several new cities.
