At our Partner Mingle on September 25, David Sutcliffe, Founding Board Chair of SVP Vancouver bestowed Founding Partner, Norm Francis with the title of Distinguished Partner. This special recognition was recently established by the Board of Directors to honour distinguished service to BC Social Venture Partners Foundation (our full legal name).
The criteria for this honour includes active service as a Partner over a continuous period of at least 10 years, service that involves varied contributions and/or multiple roles, and service that is exceptional in nature, contributing in an identifiable way to significantly advance the long term goals of the Foundation.
Norm Francis is the first SVP Partner to receive the title of Distinguished Partner and he truly exemplifies the intent of this honour. Norm was a key player in the founding of SVP Vancouver in 2001. As highlighted in SVP Vancouver’s Origin Story, Norm helped invest the initial capital for the organization and in turn recruited other Founding Partners to invest in the Foundation, becoming the third SVP chapter to be established in the world, after Seattle and Arizona.
“I really appreciate this honour,” says Norm. “However, for me the real reward is working alongside our enthusiastic group of SVP partners and seeing the results in our Investees who are helping disadvantaged children and youth-at-risk to reach their full potential.”
Norm was a Director on SVP’s Board for 12 continuous years, retiring only in June 2013, and has been involved with a large number of the 45 Investees SVP has supported over the years. Norm was also instrumental in generating over $600,000 in donations towards our Endowment Fund, matched by the late Dr. Donald Rix.
Today, Norm continues to be actively involved with SVP’s Opportunities Committee, is Co-Lead Partner with ONE TO ONE Literacy Society, patronizes many Investee events, and is participating on a committee to establish a signature fundraising event for SVP. Norm has been an incredible ambassador and steward of SVP – recruiting friends and associates to join SVP and putting forth ideas and a vision to help grow the Foundation into the strong and impactful philanthropic organization it is today.
Along with his wife, Pat and children Sarah, Kim and Lucas, the Francis Family Foundation support many charitable causes in Vancouver and have provided generous Co-Funding to SVP Investees the past two years. Hats off to Norm for this well-deserved honour. We are indebted to you for your incredible passion, dedication, generosity, and humility. To read more about Norm, visit his profile on our website.
