Adoptive Families Association of B.C. (AFABC) has been providing education, service and support to BC families, children, youth and professionals (counsellors, social workers, etc.) connected to adoption and government care for over 30 years. In 2013, AFABC began a pilot project, The Adoption Channel, to deliver on-line education and training to people in remote regions of BC where face-to-face workshops are not available. Webinars were created and delivered with clients participating on-line, and interacting with professional facilitators. AFABC would like to expand The Adoption Channel to include ongoing discussion groups, mini workshops, and guest speaker presentations and is seeking business planning expertise from SVP Vancouver.
SVP’s support will help AFABC build out online adoption education in BC and other provinces through the technological investments and curriculum development of their product AEP-online. AFABC will offer British Columbia’s mandatory adoption course in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, and add supplementary content, resulting in equal access for rural communities, faster approval of families, and improved family-readiness to adopt.
