Speaker Series featuring Dr. Tom Grogan

February 25 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Part memoir, part medical breakthrough, and an exploration of socially conscious capitalism, “Chasing the Invisible” is the story of how one of our Partners transformed the world.

Dr. Tom Grogan transformed his classic biomedical start-up company–born as a diagram on a piece of paper and a jerry-rigged prototype built in his garage–into a successful multi-billion-dollar worldwide enterprise, following its acquisition by a Swiss pharmaceutical giant. Today his invention of an automated cancer diagnostics device that helps personalize the detection of cancer and enables doctors to treat it more effectively is transforming medical practice throughout the world.

Drinks, delicious bites, and invigorating dialogue guaranteed!

Home hosted by SVP Partners Joanna Barsh and David Garbasz

Speaker Series featuring Steve Holmes, Superintendent of Sunnyside Unified School District

March 31 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Steve Holmes is a homegrown alumnus of Sunnyside whose passion and commitment to his district is unparalelled. He works to improve the opportunities available to students of Sunnyside by “challenging the notion that affluent districts where students are born on third base is tantamount to hitting an academic triple”. Steve Holmes serves as Superintendent of the Sunnyside Unified School District, the second-largest school district in Southern Arizona with more than 16,000 students and a workforce 2,000 employees strong. Steve is a transformational leader with over 24 years of successful service in public education. He holds a Master’s in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University, where he is a graduate of the Urban Superintendents Program (USP); Steve is also a graduate of the University of Arizona and an alumnus of the Sunnyside District.

A champion for equity, Steve’s work focuses on urban ed reform and bringing about deeper learning practices, coherence and innovation to high poverty districts where an emphasis on low level programs, interventions, and narrow metrics have worked against this type of learning. Mr. Holmes has cultivated partnerships with industry partners to drive more resources to foster innovation and level the playing field by challenging the notion that affluent districts where students are born on third base is tantamount to hitting an academic triple.

Drinks, delicious bites, and invigorating dialogue guaranteed!
