Humewood House provides support and resources to single parents, including vulnerable young pregnant mothers and those already caring for their children. Humewood House offers mothers pre- and post-natal services, life and work skills training, and transitional housing programs. The organization engages parents with life-skills and nutrition training, counselling services, and mentorship opportunities with volunteers in their communities. In partnership with the Toronto District School Board, Humewood House also has an educational program for pregnant women and mothers under 21 to ensure their education continues. In addition, a food bank and donation centre is also available for their clients. Over the past century, Humewood House has empowered young pregnant and parenting women to make positive life choices that will ensure a bright future not only for them, but also for their children.Over the past two years, SVP Toronto partners have worked with Humewood House to support their strategic planning, staff coaching and board position service. SVP Toronto also conducted a comprehensive workshop in key performance indicators and provided evaluation support in the development of metrics tools. Partners invested a total of 303 volunteer hours with Humewod House in 2012. SVP Toronto partners put their funding to use in assisting the Humewood House with the hiring of an organization to work with staff and volunteers in the assessment, evaluation and improvement of its client services and program delivery. With the help of outside expertise, Humewood House will be ideally positioned to build a comprehensive Social Return on Investment declaration in the future.
