Environmental Coalition of South Seattle (ECOSS) is looking for a volunteer to review their current business model, revenue sources, accepted principles, nonprofit billing practices and provide recommendations for improvements.
ECOSS wishes to continue its current and somewhat unique business model, but do so with confidence that is covering the increased costs associated with the changes in the organizational chart and staffing structure.
With the assistance of SVP, ECOSS is implementing a new organizational structure, creating increased opportunities for staff advancement, and adding brand new positions to support its ongoing growth. Although its business model is somewhat unorthodox relative to other non-profit organizations, the organization has remained relatively financially strong during the last five years.
Roughly 30% of its income comes from fundraising and foundation grants and the remainder is from reimbursable grants and contracts where indirect and/or market rate billing rates apply. In order to support the work and increased infrastructure, the organization will have to make adjustments to those rates to cover its increased costs.
Volunteer Skills Required
- Non-profit financial management experience
- Familiarity with non-profit fee for service work
- Ability to review organizational documents such as financial statements
- Familiarity with tax law as it relates to non-profit fees
- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles
