SVP’s 2014 Fast Pitch is rapidly approaching! During the main event all eyes will be on the social innovators. We’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the organizations that make this event possible – specifically our sponsors who support both the event and prizes.
SVP Seattle is fortunate to be a part of a community of organizations that value social change. We are grateful for the continued support and investment from our long terms sponsors – Starbucks, Seattle Foundation, Microsoft, Microsoft Alumni Foundation, Outerwall, The Women’s Funding Alliance – and excited to welcome new sponsors like GoDaddy and Tableau Foundation.
Our fourth annual Fast Pitch Finals will be held on October 28, 2014 at McCaw Hall where participants can win a portion of $250,000 in grants for non-profits and investments for for-profits. This year’s awards are as diverse as the participants themselves. Aside from the sponsored awards listed below, the proceeds from the ticket sales fund the non-profit prizes. Every ticket purchase is an act of philanthropy and an investment in igniting innovative social impact organizations in the Puget Sound.
MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY FOR GOOD-$10,000. Microsoft Technology for Good is a returning supporter to this year’s Fast Pitch. The Technology for Good prize is geared to projects that use technology in innovative ways. Microsoft Technology for Good sponsors a number of competitions in the Puget Sound area. According to James Rooney, Program Manager for the Technology for Good Program at Microsoft, the SVP Fast Pitch competition is unique in its breadth – it pulls in all kinds of ideas and people.
“We love the ideas. Good solid ideas. And the quality of ideas just keeps getting better year after year.”
– James Rooney, Technology for Good
“DATA INNOVATION” AWARD, TABLEAU FOUNDATION-$10,000. Tableau Foundation is a new foundation created by Tableau Software to encourage the use of facts and analytical reasoning to solve the world’s problems. Seattle SVP partner Neal Myrick is leading the effort. The Foundation, in collaboration with Slalom Consulting, is sponsoring a “Data Innovation” award to support an innovative nonprofit that has a vision for using data to accelerate its mission. The award includes a grant and two weeks of pro-bono consulting from Slalom Consulting.
2014 OPPORTUNITY AWARD, WOMEN’S FUNDING ALLIANCE-$7,500. The Women’s Funding Alliance is a thirty-year old non-profit focused on improving the lives of women and girls in Washington State. The 2014 Opportunity Award is looking for the most innovative project to improve the lives of women and girls.
OUTERWALL CIVIC VENTURE AWARD. Outerwall is sponsoring a new award for one of the SVP entrepreneurs to participate in the Points of Light Civic Accelerator. The Civic Accelerator is a start up within Points of Light, a global non-profit aimed at investing in and supporting seed stage social ventures that solve pressing social and environmental issues by engaging people. The Civic accelerator is a 12-week boot camp program that offers impact entrepreneurs education, peer learning, mentoring, connections, and investment. The winner of this award has an opportunity to win a $50,000 prize in a national competition.
