BECU People Helping People Awards: Nominate your favorite Innovator by April 5

Posted by Deborah Drake

BECU does a wonderful thing annually. It’s call the BECU People Helping People Awards.

As a not-for-profit credit union, supporting the community is in the BECU DNA. The BECU People Helping People Awards recognize and honor both members and organizations in communities in our service area. What past SVP Fast Pitch Innovator deserves a BECU People Helping People award? The time to nominate them is today.

Did you know that our very own Viva Farms who took the non-profit and audience award in 2011 won a $10,000 Community Benefits award when they were nominated for a BECU People Helping People Award?

Yes, they did.

Let me remind you about Viva Farms. The mission of Viva Farms is to train a new generation of sustainable farmers and to reconnect people with farms. The organization operates three main programs, GrowFood.org, Viva Farms and Slow Money Northwest. Learn more about Viva Farms and what they are up to five years since they first applied to Fast Pitch.

In a 2013 update on alumnae Viva Farms shared that:

Ethan Schaffer reports that the Fast Pitch “program helped us hone our message and get comfortable telling our story. I continue to come back to the core story we developed at Fast Pitch. Our mentors continue to be involved with and support Viva Farms two years later.”

“Fast Pitch was really the first thing that put us on the map,” continues Ethan  “The prize money was also a big boost at a critical time. As a small organization, the money made a significant impact in propelling us forward. We received follow on donations and support as well. Fast Pitch opened the door for us to take our small concept and expand it into a viable social venture.”

TODAY is the last day of the application period and an opportunity to highlight and support your favorite non-profit. We’ve had Innovators in the past five years that address many of the categories. So, let’s celebrate our favorite innovators all over again by nominating them for a BECU People Helping People Award between right now and tomorrow.

Nominations due by April 5, 2016.

Any BECU member can nominate one or more eligible member and/or non-profit(s) for a People Helping People Award during the nomination period. Are you a BECU Member or do you know one?
