Allyship for White People and Non-Black POC – a Workshop
August 26 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Are you feeling overwhelmed and immobilized by a greater awareness of anti-Black racism right now? Are you looking for ideas, next steps, and places to gain more knowledge and awareness to better advocate for racial justice, especially for Black people? Join SVP and Equity Matters in our first ever Allyship Workshop. This is a space for White and Non-Black POC Partners to come together in an online, interactive conversation to discuss race and allyship, and gain strategies and resources to start or continue your antiracist, racial equity journey.
Please note: We will be holding a separate Black only session to ensure that we are dedicating resources Black Partners and Investees. That session is still being scheduled, but if you are interested in attending that session, please contact Hana Gregory at email@example.com.
This will be a single two-hour workshop – and space is limited to 25 participants. You will need to use a computer with audio and video capacity. Please note that there is mandatory pre-readings and work to be done before the workshop starts, so registration will close on August 21st.
Given the space considerations, priority registration will be given to current SVP Partners and Investees. If you are not a current SVP Partner or Investee, please do register, and we will do our best to accommodate if space allows.
Cost: We are asking our White Partners to contribute to offset the cost of the session – with a suggested fee of $100. These proceeds will help cover the cost of this session, the cost of the Black-only session, and Equity Matters will pay forward 50% of all fees for the workshop to Black collective organizations and efforts. This is just one example of SVP Seattle living our values of racial equity and racial justice.
Facilitators: This workshop will be facilitated by Heidi Schillinger, M.S.W, Principal and Founder, of Equity Matters, which has facilitated the Racial Equity Foundational Series for SVP as well as the Equity Matters Skills Lab 2.0.
