Fast Pitch Alumni Update: Village

Posted by Maureen O'Hara

villageDr. Tara Shelby’s motivation for Village Wellness and Birth Center, and a commitment to health and healing came from how she was “beating the odds” in dealing with her personal health issues by combining traditional, spiritual and natural medicine. This included combining her studies at Bastyr, studies of Native Indian medicine, and studies with Sufi.

She likens Fast Pitch to a “reality show” for non-profits with each organization learning who they really are in the process. The Fast Pitch coaching helped Dr. Shelby focus the potential of Village and ultimately see “the much larger the impact” of her vision. She says that through this larger vision “I am dancing with movers and shakers. The constructive criticism was the most helpful and I still use the lessons learned when speaking today. Fast Pitch helped me see the how much larger the impact of my vision could be – going from helping 2100 people a year – to be able to impact several million people a year. It helped me bigger than I thought I could be.

Village was a Finalist in the 2011 Fast Pitch and presented at the first Finals Pitch event in the Fisher Pavillion. You can check out Dr. Shelby’s finals pitch on Youtube.
