Steve Bernitz is a retired biotechnology executive. He spent most of his career in the Boston area leading business development teams for Concert Pharmaceuticals, Coley Pharmaceutical Group and Dyax Corp. He also served as a CEO for Histogenics and Organogenesis. Prior to becoming CEO, as vice president and general manager at Organogenesis, Steve founded, built and led a 15-person biosurgery division, as well as built the company’s first marketing and sales team. Since relocating to San Diego, Steve has shifted his focus to the nonprofit sector looking to gain a deeper understanding of his new community and make positive, impactful contributions. He serves on the board of SVP San Diego and Just in Time for Foster Youth. He is also involved with the San Diego Foundation and KPBS public radio.

What do you love to do in your free time?
Go to the beach with my wife and dogs, ride my motorcycle.
What is one little known fact about yourself?
My wife and I were married on a mountaintop in South Africa while on safari.

Why did you decide to attend this year’s SVP Global Conference?
As a new partner and member of SVP San Diego’s Board of Directors, I look forward to learning how other chapters address common issues and have the greatest impact on their communities.
