Lube-Tech has always believed in giving back to the community in which they do business. They wanted a corporate philanthropy program that goes beyond writing a check. But with high business demands and day to day operations, Lube-Tech wasn’t sure how to fit in managing a corporate philanthropy program. So they turned to Social Venture Partners Minnesota (SVP)!
With a common goal of strengthening the Twin Cities’ community by investing in at-risk teens, Lube-Tech and SVP have established a robust relationship through SVP’s Philanthropic Partners Program. While SVP provides the process, tools and organizational support for the corporate philanthropy work, Lube-Tech employees are able to utilize their talents and skills to build capacity for local nonprofits seeking to scale. This hands-on approach combining, time, talent and resources describes SVP’s unique “engaged philanthropy” model – a model that Lube-Tech was eager to pursue.
Over the past nine years, Lube-Tech has utilized many tools and processes from SVP, including their due diligence process for selecting nonprofits to support (Investees). Having selected three Investees to-date, Lube-Tech currently has over 150 employees actively involved in their philanthropy programs!
Lube-Tech has continued relationships and remains active with its first two Investees, High School of Recording Arts (HSRA) and Breakthrough Twin Cities.
HSRA was the first Investee acquired through SVP’s Philanthropic Partners Program and currently Lube-Tech has an employee dedicated 5-10 hours a week to help advance their program. In addition, a Basic Needs Drive (coats, clothing, toiletries, gift cards, etc.) is held every February as over 50% of the students are considered homeless.
HSRA provides youth the opportunity to achieve a high school diploma through the exploration and operation of the music business and other creative endeavors.
Breakthrough Twin Cities (BTC) was selected in 2012 as Lube-Tech’s second Investee. Lube-Tech continues to invest time and supports the BTC mission to prepare under-resourced students for college success and cultivate the next generation of educators. For example, Lube-Tech recently hosted an onsite career experience day for sixty 7th and 8th grade students to encourage secondary education and show a variety of career options for them to consider. Each summer Lube-Tech organizes a college supply drive for graduating seniors. These projects are a few of many that have been developed with BTC and we foresee this partnership continuing as their program keeps excelling.
SVP’s Philanthropic Partners Program has been instrumental in building Lube-Tech’s philanthropy efforts. This program is core to Lube-Tech’s company culture, their brand in the marketplace and their support in the community. The knowledge and professional support provided by SVP goes beyond the due diligence process and continues through the cultivation of our Investee. Both Lube-Tech and SVP Minnesota look forward to this continued partnership and the endless opportunities to maximize their impact on at-risk teens in the community.
