Carla Pavone has been a member of Social Venture Partners since 2012, serving on the due diligence team, as a lead partner, and on the board of directors. She has a BA in biology from University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a PhD in business administration from the Carlson School of Management. She has had three careers: in publishing (primarily at start-ups), in financial services (mainly leading internal corporate start-ups and turnarounds) and in academia. Carla spent three years at the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where she taught entrepreneurship classes and coached new ventures. She is currently a senior instructor at the Carlson School of Management teaching entrepreneurship and management courses, and also consults to young nonprofits and businesses seeking to boost their growth.
Born in New York and having spent most her her young adult life on the East Coast, Carla moved to the Twin Cities with her North Dakotan husband. When she’s not directing the Minnesota Innovation Corps at the University of Minnesota, or facilitating SVP Board work, or raising two young adult sons, or being involved in multiple other Twin Cities entrepreneurial organizations, you may find Carla doing CrossFit with zeal. In her Board chair role, Carla is excited to continue efforts to grow SVP and its impact by working with committees to define ways for all our partners to meaningfully engage with our Investees and each other.
