Both Ally and Joe grew up in the Twin Cities and attended the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management for undergrad. After graduation, they each joined Deloitte Consulting in the Minneapolis office, where we met. Joe specialized in M&A at Deloitte and then transferred to the Washington, DC federal practice for a year before attending the Kellogg School of Management. After graduating with his MBA in 2012, Joe joined the healthcare world at Optum, where he works in corporate strategy. Joe has been involved with Students Today Leaders Forever since undergrad and helped shape the alumni engagement strategy of the organization. Ally specialized in strategy in the retail and consumer products industries at Deloitte before attending Harvard Business School, where she graduated with her MBA in May of 2013. Ally just started her new job at General Mills in a brand management role (marketing). For the last four years, Ally has served on the board of Facing Futures, a nonprofit that specializes in providing surgery to children with facial deformities.
We asked them some fun questions to get to know them better, here is what they said:
What made you get involved with Social Venture Partners?
Two of Joe’s close friends (Greg Tehven and Josh Reimnitz) have raved about Social Venture Partners, and after learning about the unique, hybrid nature of the venture investing and volunteer involvement of the members, we were sold! We are so excited to meet all of the partners of SVP and to learn more about the organizations and causes that SVP supports.
Fill-in the blank: By week days I work as a ______ at ______, by weekend we really love to ________.
By week days we work as a marketer (Ally) and strategist (Joe) at General Mills and Optum / United Health Group respectively. By weekends, we really love to cook, run, explore Minnesota wineries, spend time at Ally’s family cabin in Annandale, and take weekend trips whenever we can!
What are you most looking forward to as an SVP partner?
After a few years living out of the Twin Cities (DC, Chicago, and Boston between the two of us), we are so excited to become reconnected with our hometown and to work on issues that are critical to bettering the Twin Cities community. We also look forward to meeting and learning from such a diverse group of fascinating individuals – our fellow SVP partners!
Anything else you would like the SVP community to know about you?
We are newlyweds! We just got married in Minneapolis on June 22, 2013 and then honeymooned in South Africa and Mauritius afterward. So far, married life is treating us well!
