Gwen Echols

Gwen is an experienced professional with a record of accomplishment in the Dallas business and nonprofit community.  She is presently a community volunteer and has supported Dallas nonprofit agencies in leadership roles for over 20 years.   Her most recent professional work was with Bank of America, where she was employed for over 10 years.  During her tenure, she performed in roles on the Bank’s merger team, in software development, and most recently through 2003, where she was a Senior Vice President and relationship team leader for the sale of corporate treasury services.

While at Bank of America, Gwen’s sales achievement in corporate treasury services benchmarked in the top 20% of her worldwide peer group.  She was nationally recognized for the ability to turnaround difficult client relationships and selected for the Leading From The Front senior executive development program.  To help promote volunteerism, Gwen acted as a management advisor to the Bank of America Volunteer Board.  During that time, she helped promote the volunteer efforts of 20,000 Bank of America employees in the region.  She was the recipient of Dallas banking division Volunteer Leadership Award in 1997, and a national nominee for the Bank’s LEND Volunteer Leadership Award in 1998.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Committee Member and Lead Mentor, The GroundFloor, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, 2018
Social innovation impact work with the 2018 class of fellows.  Lead mentor to NTARUPT, an organization dedicated to reducing poverty and unintended teen pregnancy in Dallas.

Board Member, TACA, 2011-present
TACA supports the arts in Dallas County through financial grants and capacity services to ultimately strengthen arts organizations in our community.  Executive Committee and Visual Arts Grants Panel member in 2018.  Lead board strategic planning effort in 2017.  Lead project manager for capacity building engagements in 2014.  Recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 2013.

Advisory Board and Communications Task Force Member, Office of Cultural Affairs, 2017-2018
Member of the community team dedicated to the development of the new Dallas Cultural Plan, which was approved by City Council in November 2018.  Member of new 2019 Steering Committee organized to help implement the plan across the community.

 

Board Member, KERA, 2018-present
North Texas Public Broadcasting serves North Texans through public television, radio, and multi-media resources.  Member of Advancement Committee.

Board Member, Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation, 2015 – present
Serve as board member and advocate within the community supporting fundraising for the work of the Baylor Scott & White Foundation.

Judge’s Chair, Night of Light, CNM, 2018
Supported judging effort to select 2018 honorees for CNM’s annual event celebrating organizations and individuals in North Texas who have positively impacted the social sector of our community.

Board Member, Leadership Dallas Alumni Association, Dallas Regional Chamber, 2012-2018
Organization goal is to develop lasting relationships with alumni through programs and events, leveraging the Dallas Regional Chamber’s vision for economic development and community impact.  Program leadership includes: Co-Chair, Board and Commissions Roundtable, 2017,

Chair, Cyber Security Briefing, 2015,  and Co-Chair, Domestic Violence Panel, 2014.

Board Member, The BMW Dallas Marathon, 2013-2018
Organization is dedicated to promoting health and fitness in the community through it’s annual marathon and running events during the year. Member of Executive Committee, race day logistics and risk management team, and volunteer co-leader of annual children’s race in partnership with the DISD.

EDUCATION,  CERTIFICATION,  ACTIVITIES

Gwen has an MBA in Finance from the University of Dallas and a BA in Communications from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.  She is a Certified Treasury Professional and a Certified Business Protocol Consultant.  She is also a graduate of the Dallas Business Council for the Arts “Leadership Arts” program and Leadership Dallas.

Gwen is a multi-sport athlete dedicated to lifelong fitness.  She is an avid tennis player, runner, and hiker and has completed numerous long-distance events.  She and her husband Leldon live in Dallas.
