Michael Salkind was Chief of Structures and Materials for Sikorsky Aircraft, Chief of Structures for NASA HQ, Director of Aerospace Sciences for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and President of Ohio Aerospace Institute. He helped develop Indus International to help businesses in USA and India develop strategic partnerships. He brings over 40 years of experience in developing and facilitating collaborative teams, managing technology, funding R&D, research and teaching. He has published more than 40 articles and a book entitled Applications of Composite Materials. He has served on the adjunct faculty of The Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Trinity College, and Kent State University and received the Cleveland Technical Societies Leadership Award in 2002.
One of Michael’s passions is K-12 education. In addition to being a founding Board member of Citizens’ Academy Community School, he led an intervention team in 2008 that helped the Nathan Hale School (CMSC) to measurably improve student performance in one year. In the 1990s, he was asked by the Ohio Department of Education to organize a consortium of 30 public school districts to collaborate on improving their performance. The SMART consortium now has more than 50 school districts and is managed by Ideastream.
