Mary is an attorney who specialized in business law. A 1976 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Mary spent many years as in-house counsel for a Fortune 100 company and later was in-house counsel for a large nonprofit healthcare system. Several highlights from her wide-ranging legal career include being the lead negotiator in the formation of international joint ventures, preparing testimony presented to Congress, and participating on a committee that provided advice to the White House on healthcare issues.
She left the practice of law in late 2001 to focus on volunteer and community activity. Mary is a past board member of Social Venture Partners of Cleveland and a past president of Social Venture Partners International (SVPI); she finished her SVPI term in October 2013. For Social Venture Partners, she has served as lead partner on the engagements with Youth Opportunities Unlimited, E-City, and VNA, and she has assisted in our education initiatives. In mid-2003, Mary founded BrightPath Industries, a pilot microenterprise which employed homeless individuals in the program at New Life Community (now Family Promise of Greater Cleveland), and she continues as a board member. She is also a board member of both the Deaconess Foundation and its senior housing entities and the Centers for Dialysis Care and affiliated companies.
Mary lives in Shaker Heights with her attorney husband, Jim, and has two adult children, Jim and Jeanne.
