Rita M. Barksdale is the general manager for the global Amazon Renewed Marketplace. In this role, her site allows consumers to reduce planet impact by purchasing pre-owned product with great quality at a reduced cost.
She joined Amazon November 2020 following a 23-year span with General Electric. Rita started with GE on the Technical Sales Leadership Program and progressed through a variety of outside sales and sales management positions. In July 2005, she became the product manager for bottom freezer and top freezer refrigeration and built the bottom freezer business for GE Appliances before moving to Belgium to lead the Europe, Middle East, and Africa Pole. She joined GE Healthcare as the general manager for maternal infant care in April 2012 and became the business champion for GE Developing Health – Baltimore. She also served as the 2016 chairperson for the Greater Baltimore March of Dimes March for Babies Campaign. Rita has held the roles of African American Forum Business Champion of GE Appliances and Lighting, board member for the Chestnut Street YMCA, and one of the three operating leaders for the Global African American Forum.
Rita holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. Her hobbies include investing, audiobooks, and cycling. She finished her first triathlon in August 2019 and is looking forward to the next. She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
