Joe Meginnes is a transactional attorney with over a decade of experience advising clients on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and the organization and operation of private funds.

Joe started his career in Sidley Austin’s Chicago office, contributing to a team consistently ranked among the world’s leading investment funds practices. Following Sidley, Joe joined the legal team at Balyasny Asset Management where he played a key role in supporting the firm’s growth in headcount, assets under management and business lines over six-plus years. In addition to his contributions to the firm’s corporate work, BAM provided Joe with exposure to a breadth of matters including labor and employment, litigation, data privacy, executive compensation and HR. He also served on the firm’s Operating Committee.

In 2020, Joe completed the UIC-SEA Social Enterprise Certificate program at the University of Illinois at Chicago which focused on the design, development and operation of social businesses. He is the Board Secretary of Pangea Educational Development, a nonprofit which in 2018 launched a social enterprise focused on children’s book publishing. Finally, he provides regular pro bono counsel to Mercy Corps’ Social Venture Fund, partnering with members of the investment team to evaluate the fund’s participation in Seed and Series A capital raises for social businesses in emerging markets.

Joe holds a bachelor of arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a juris doctor from Harvard Law School. He lives in Wheaton with his wife and two children.
