Debbie Nutley delved into the nonprofit sector after her retirement from the legal and human resources professions. She believes there is significant opportunity for greater impact in the nonprofit sector and thereby in our communities. Debbie personally aligns to the concepts of venture philanthropy and leverages her financial donations with professional expertise to make a greater contribution in support of her chosen nonprofits. Most recently, Debbie has been active at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) where she serves on the Keystone Board, volunteers on the pediatric floor, and works on projects with senior leaders in a volunteer capacity.
Debbie began her career as a labor and employment attorney at the law firm of Dowd & Resnick and then moved to the corporate legal department at Washington National Insurance. After ten years in the legal profession Debbie segued into human resources at CNA Insurance and was progressively promoted up to the Chief Human Resources Officer position. Debbie retired from CNA in 2015.
A lifelong learner, Debbie greatly enjoys learning a vast array of topics. She graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Biology and from Chicago-Kent College of Law with honors. She also obtained certifications in Asian studies from National Chengchi University in Taipei, executive human resources from University of Michigan – Ross School of Business and Executive Scholars Program at Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management.
