Circle de Luz was formed in response to the high teenage pregnancy rate, low high school graduation rate, and low college graduation rate of Latinas. Emboldened by the potential of women to shape and change communities, Circle conceived their mission as a nonprofit and giving circle to radically empower young Latinas by supporting their transformation through extensive mentoring, holistic programming and scholarship funds for post high school education.
Circle’s work begins with selecting a cohort group of Latinas in seventh grade and supporting them through high school graduation. Circle offers holistic programming guided by a developmental model with twelve categories and provides thoughtful group and individual mentoring throughout the six years. Circle offers over 60 programs a year across the classes and currently supports four classes of middle and high school Latinas with extensive mentoring and dynamic programming to enhance their confidence, broaden their exposure, and prepare them for the future. Circle also provides a scholarship of at least $5,000 to each girl upon graduation to further their education.
Social Venture Partners has voted Circle de Luz as our most recent Investee, partnering and working shoulder to shoulder with them for the next three years. SVP will provide Circle $25,000 each year along with skilled volunteers, technical assistance and training opportunities. SVP will work with Circle to identify and achieve agreed upon outcomes and goals through specific areas of capacity building to help strengthen the organizational infrastructure at Circle and enable them to become as effective as possible in delivering their vital programs and services to the community.
