March 9, 2017 - March 11, 2017

In November, Social Venture Partners International received almost $700,000 in grants from the Ford, Raikes and Gates Foundations to build a Philanthropy Development framework for our Partners. SVP Calgary has been selected to pilot two of the courses on behalf of the 3,200 Partners in 40 cities across 9 countries. It is an amazing opportunity to learn and provide input that is going to impact our entire organization. Staff members from SVP International will facilitate the session. Below are the two courses and dates that are being offered.

March 9, 2017 – 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Social Venture Partners Approach, Values and Culture
SVP’s values and behaviors, SVP’s cultural norms, SVP’s programs and methodologies, SVP’s “fit” – the characteristics of organizations that thrive as investees.
By the end of this module, learners will be able to; examine how SVP’s values and behaviors align with their personal values; compare and contrast personal experiences with cultural norms and the cultural norms of SVP, identify programs and methodologies that make up the SVP way, describe the characteristics of an organization that is likely to thrive as an SVP Investee.

March 11, 2017 – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Nonprofit Fundamentals

Topics include – how non-profits are different than for profits, overview of fundraising methods for nonprofits, understanding of board governance and non profit financial accounting, non profit cultures.   By the end of the module, learners will be able to – compare and contrast organizational structure and reason for being between nonprofit and for profit organizations, describe the variety of structures and fundraising (revenue generating) methods available to nonprofits, explain the core functions of non profit board governance, describe the continuum of organizational culture that characterizes a range of non-profit organizations.

SVP Global Summit: Communities at the Center

May 1 - May 3

For twenty years, Social Venture Partners has leveraged the networks of thousands of engaged philanthropists to effect meaningful change in communities worldwide. Today, SVP is 8 countries and 43 affiliate chapters strong — a global movement of over 3400 engaged donors, skilled leaders and volunteers transforming the world’s understanding of social impact.

Every year, our international community converges to renew its commitment to the challenge of smarter philanthropy. We share the best of our affiliates’ work across the globe; examine our sector’s most pressing concerns and emerging practices; deepen the understanding of our individual and collective roles as change agents; and expand through the connections that define our network.

This Year in Vancouver…

the Summit will gather our global network to examine the what it means to center impacted and historically marginalized communities. How does historical context show up today? How do we show up in ways that allow us to contribute to transformation? How do we honor communities we seek to work with?
