Financials 201 – Lunch & Learn

You’ve got the nonprofit financial accountability basics down: you know what you need to report to your Board, and what the respective financial responsibilities of an Executive Director and Board members are. Financial statements generally make sense, and you can spot financial warning signs before they cause your organization too much trouble.
Sounds familiar? Sounds like you’re ready for Financials 201!
On November 21st, join SVP Waterloo Region, in partnership with BDO Canada, at Communitech for a lunch-and-learn workshop on nonprofit financial management. Led by BDO Canada Partner Tim Sothern, the workshop will focus on:
- strategies for building budgets,
- analysis of variances,
- tips for effectively monitoring cash flows, and
- operating a Finance and Audit committee.

Tim Sothern specializes in accounting and assurance for larger owner-managed and non-profit clients and is an Assurance Specialist at BDO. Tim has over 25 years of public accounting experience in Waterloo Region and is the Regional Leader for BDO’s Not-for-Profit Industry Team.
Tim has been awarded one of the highest honours in accounting, a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA, FCA) designation, for his service to the profession and community achievements. He is very active as a volunteer: Tim is on the Board of Supportive Housing of Waterloo and is a Partner with SVP Waterloo Region. He is also a former member of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s audit committee.
