The importance of literacy — and the impact it has on kids like Gavin — was exactly the reason the organization Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region selected Strong Start as its initial investee in the summer of 2011. Social Venture Partners (SVP), a group of local individuals focused on tackling Waterloo Region’s social challenges involving children and families, today launched its new teen philanthropy group, SVP Teens, as part of its 3rd anniversary in Waterloo Region and the global GivingTuesday movement. Similar to events and organizations such as We Day and Free the Children, SVP Teens rallies youth together and energizes them to get involved with the causes they are most passionate about, but it also goes further and deeper. SVP Teens prepares and empowers youth to address problems facing their community throughout the year and teaches them the importance and value of strategic and engaged philanthropy. Read More »
