Getting to know Fares Boulos

Posted by ginaungaro

Meet one of SVP’s newest Partners, Fares Boulos. Fares became a Partner in February 2018, and in short order, proceeded to join the Opportunities Committee, participate in several non-profit discovery visits, facilitate a brainstorming session, and jump in on several other SVP and Investee projects.

Fares joined SVP at the urging of his friend, Hamlet Abnousi – SVP Partner and board member – whom he first met several years ago when Fares facilitated a strategy session for alumni Investee, Mom2Mom. This experience piqued his interest to do more.

“What I like about SVP is the opportunity to meet amazing Partners (and staff!) with such a broad range of interests and backgrounds,” states Fares, “and the ability to contribute in some small ways toward the success of SVP and its Investees.”

Like many of our Partners, Fares’ journey to now has been filled with rich experiences and adventures.

Fares has enjoyed three careers over his professional life: as an academic, an investment banker and a strategy consultant. Each was rewarding in its own way. “I’ve had the good fortune to work with some amazingly smart and accomplished women and men, and made many friends in each career along the way,” says Fares. “Education-wise, I hold an MBA and B.Sc. both from the University of Toronto, and a Diploma in Writing for Film Television and New Media from the Vancouver Film School.”

Fares is currently a Professor of Strategy at INSEAD, the leading global business school with campuses in France, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and soon San Francisco. “I teach/have taught ‘Strategy’ to students in the MBA and GEMBA programs and I direct and teach in a variety of programs for executives and managers,” says Fares. “My teaching takes me to The Americas, Europe, Asia and Australasia.”

Since joining SVP, Fares discovered we can have a significant and tangible positive impact on peoples’ lives.  “SVP is an organization managed by a small handful of dedicated professionals helped by many volunteer Partners. We talk a lot about ‘leverage’ in my academic life; this is REAL leverage at work.”

Finally, we asked Fares one thing people would never guess about him. He gave us two, and they’re too good not to share! “I sported an Afro in my undergrad days. I have the picture to prove it, but show it only upon special request! I also wrote two screenplays for movies, and am looking to market and option one of them.”

A man of many talents! You can meet Fares in person and experience his remarkable teaching style at his upcoming Investee/Partner workshop on Logics Structure, Thursday, May 17th from 2-4:30 pm. Find out more and REGISTER.
