Communities In Schools (CIS) of Seattle is part of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Their evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for their success. Many children face challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Through a school-based site coordinator, CIS strategically aligns and delivers needed resources so that students can focus on learning.

The value of Communities In Schools of Seattle's work is most clearly understood through Tiara's story. Tiara transferred into a local middle school in seventh grade. She was often absent, so a CIS site coordinator started to get to know her, and then suddenly she missed two weeks in a row. Concerned, the site coordinator called Tiara’s home, then visited the address on file to find that the family had been evicted from their apartment.
