The Business Partnership for Early Learning (BPEL) was a coalition of King County business leaders stepping forward to invest in an innovative, research-based early learning strategy as a way to close the school preparedness gap. A five‐year plan for helping prepare children for school that included funding, deploying and testing a research‐based approach to fostering school readiness via the Parent‐Child Home Program (PCHP), BPEL and the City of Seattle selected and made grants to three local agencies that target their services to children most likely to have a school preparedness gap: children who live in poverty and are African American, Native American or part of a family that does not speak English as a primary language.
The United Way of King County is currently building on this model through the Parent Child Home Program.
