Communities in Schools (CIS) of Seattle is looking for a skilled volunteer to work with their Board and Interim Executive Director to help them take a critical look at their Board functioning. The organization has a 13-person Board and they are currently in the midst of managing a search process for a long-term Executive Director. In alignment with the ED search process CIS would like support to look at their existing board members’ talents, strengthens and weaknesses; determine what are existing gaps in background and skills; and plan for the Board’s future growth.
If you’re someone who has sat on a nonprofit board or has worked with nonprofits at the governance level, then this would be a fantastic opportunity to support the critical support that CIS offers to students across Seattle Public Schools.
Work to be performed
The volunteer will facilitate discussions with CIS’ Interim ED and members of the organization’s Board Development Committee around the current state of CIS’ Board, where they need to grow and develop, and how they would like their Board to look in the future. The volunteer may consider looking at how other successful Boards recruit new members and provide effective orientation. Potential deliverables associated with this project include:
- A detailed plan for on boarding new Board members
- Revamped board orientation
This could be a great project for a small team!
