Veterans are challenged finding jobs after they leave the service. Many transitioning members have the opportunity to pursue higher education and training through the GI Bill, however, 40% never use their GI bill and only 25% complete the degrees they start. Unemployment for military spouses is also high at 26% which is thrice the national average. Meanwhile, Tech companies are looking for qualified talent.
VetStartsups, founded in 2014 by Dan Hall, Margarita Molina, and Bradley Young, train veteran developers, designers, and entrepreneurs to launch new careers and tech startups in organic, vibrant ecosystems across the nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unfilled software development openings will increase by 22% over the next 10 years. By training veterans, VetStartsups is helping military transitioning members become employed in the tech industry and they aim to make this impact through 20 campuses worldwide by 2020.
