Seattle is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. It is also a haven for refugees. Some of the women refugees left their countries because they experienced commercial sexual exploitation, forced migrations, barriers to economic opportunities and social stigmas. They struggle to integrate, they are vulnerable to exploitation but they also need to provide for their families even without viable employment options.
TK Threads empowers formerly oppressed women through long-term employment in a restorative network. Led by Jessica Watson, Austin Harris, Danny Parr, Summer Downs, Scott Sweeney, Carl Sallee and Elisa Raney, the company manufactures apparel for large retailers through home-based and small scale manufacturing. By doing so, TK Threads offer marginalized women income opportunities for them to support their families and also helps them connect with other nonprofits to provide holistic care. As women become empowered, they will thrive in a supportive community and this give the freedom to improve their lives.
