We are two weeks away! Have you cleared your schedule to meet Chanel and our ten other finalists next weekend? Check back daily as we countdown to our big day and introduce all 11 finalists.
Our Mission: To excite, educate, and equip girls from low-income communities by delivering high-quality STEM programming that empowers girls to achieve economic mobility and better life chances.
What inspires you most about the work you do? I see the opportunities that are afforded to young girls and women through STEM. I love to see how excited our girls get when they figure out a problem or come up with a new idea. Seeing them reminds me so much of myself at that age and my own excitement. As someone who graduated as the only black female in their Chemistry Department, I want to see more girls of color not only entered into STEM, but become CEO’s of fortune 500 companies, Innovators, and Noble Prize winners. STEM has played a large role in my life and has allowed me to have economic mobility. I want the same for our girls.
What are you most excited about on November 10th? I’m excited to share about Techbridge Girls, our mission, and the new work that we have been doing with our elementary school educators this past year. I’m honored to share the stage with the other amazing finalists and to hear their final presentations.
Tell us a little known fact about you: I’m originally from Michigan. To this day, I enjoy watching snow fall from the inside by a warm fire.
What are some of your favorite things to do in Seattle or the PNW? I enjoy going to the Pacific Northwest Ballet. I attend at least two performances a season. This past summer, I visited Gasworks Park a number of times. I realized how calming and comforting it is to look at the water and skyline.
