Our Mission: Seattle Against Slavery mobilizes our community in the fight against labor and sex trafficking through education, advocacy, and collaboration with local and national partners. We envision a community where no one is exploited for labor or sex.

What inspires you most about the work you do?  I have worked on many social issues, all of them incredibly important, and the intersection of many challenges we face – homelessness, racism, sexism, economic inequality gender based violence – come together in human trafficking. The amazing part is that the work done to reduce trafficking over the past 20 years has been incredibly successful, and successes are often hard to come by in the social change world.

What are you most excited about on November 10th? I think I’m most excited to share that human trafficking, a problem that seems immense and overwhelming, could actually have some powerful and effective solutions. I hope that’s what people will take away from my five minutes.

Tell us a little known fact about you: Most people don’t know that I fix up old motorcycles and boats. I love the water and love being on old bikes, and even though I don’t know much about what I’m doing, it’s a very relaxing hobby.

What are some of your favorite things to do in Seattle or the PNW? I think everyone visiting Seattle should ride the ferries around the sound and take buses and bikes on the islands and peninsula. It’s pretty much my favorite thing to do here.

Join us to hear Robert’s story on Saturday, November 10th!  Tickets Available
