Urban Death Project
The Big Idea
“Urban Death Project is developing a new model of death care called recomposition. It turns us into soil after we die so we can become part of the earth again.
The project began as a Master’s thesis in architecture school. I had just spent two years caring for my ailing grandparents and that had made me curious about death care. There was no ecologically-centered system for the millions of people who live in urban centers, and I set out to design one.”
