Fast Pitch alumni, CHOICES is a stay-in-school workshop that uses text messaging as part of a cell phone game to reinforce the messages taught in the workshop and maintain a connection with the teens. They realized that they were “onto something” when they “took it to G4C in NYC and got second place recognition from gaming experts.”
Leo Muller says that Fast Pitch helped us “refine our project goals, clarify our financials, and communicate much more clearly to our stakeholders about our organization.” They received funding from Microsoft to launch their first pilot and since “more than 3,800 teens have since played nearly 6,000 games; 63% of participating teens said they will make different (translate: better) choices in their lives as a result of playing the game.”
He added, “Although we were only quarterfinalists the first year, at the finals we met the Microsoft contacts that led to a new board member, our Microsoft grant, and additional volunteers for our organization – all these we would not have gotten without Fast Pitch.”
CHOICES was an Established Nonprofit Fast Pitch Semifinalist in 2012. To see what they up to now check out their website.
