What We Do

Our purpose is to leverage local philanthropy and talent to make our community a better place.

What We Do

We are an active network of professionals who leverage their time, expertise, connections and funds to help make a measurable impact in Santa Barbara County.  We partner with non-profit agencies, decision makers, philanthropists and other collaborators and provide proven solutions and best practices especially in the areas of homelessness, education and the environment.

What Makes us Different?

  • Part of the world’s largest network of engaged local donors
  • Associated with the Santa Barbara Foundation as a Field of Interest Fund
  • Focus is on ideas with big potential, not the status quo
  • We bring an entrepreneurial business approach to problems
  • We are doers first and funders second

Making an Impact through Affinity Groups

Affinity Groups (AGs) create a forum through which SVPSB partners can investigate, discuss, and brainstorm about the major issues of our community.   AGs provide a method for information collection and sharing about specific selected subjects.   They are a place where people with similar social concerns can learn, listen and contribute.

SVPSB has three Affinity Groups:

  • Education:  Improving access and effectiveness for undeserved groups
  • Environment:  Identifying scalable solutions to benefit the planet
  • Homelessness:  Bringing innovation and best practices to those in need

Partners work together within the AGs to identify community needs, assess programs that exist to serve those needs, and collaborate on how SVP partners can make the greatest impact.  As projects are identified, SVP partners team-up with non-profit and program leaders and lend their skills and experience to assist in growing and enhancing existing programs or building new programs to meet a social need within the community.

New Affinity Groups may be created when a partner or group of partners identify an area of interest and select a partner to lead the new AG.  New AGs will be formed if there is enough interest from the partnership at large and if there are clear opportunities to make an impact in the community.
