Social Venture Partners (SVP) India launched the Million Jobs Mission, which brings together a global consortium of best-in-class design, funding and implementation partners to create an ecosystem to train & empower 1 Million people for sustainable livelihoods in the country by 2020.
The SVP Million Jobs Mission aims to identify and support social organizations that share SVP’s passion for creating jobs and improving incomes. Through this Mission, SVP & its consortium partners will select 10-15 social organizations that have plans to create a cumulative of 1,000,000 + sustainable livelihoods each in the next five years, across diverse sectors. SVP & its partners will provide a range of support to each of these organisations over the next 5 years to make these plans a reality.
Announcing the Mission, Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman of SVP India and Chairman, Bank of Baroda said the country needed well-meaning, capable global and local partners to come together to address the frightening jobs scenario in the country. “There is an alarming divergence between the opportunities & skills needed for jobs across sectors, and the actual availability of trained, empowered talent in the country. SVP India with our global, national and local partners aims to redress this situation through the Million Jobs Mission” he said.
Ganesh Natarajan, member of the global Board of Social Venture Partners International, Chairman of 5F World and Co-Convener of the Million Jobs Mission said, “SVP has made great strides in India in the last couple of years with active chapters and over a hundred engaged partners funding, mentoring and scaling multiple NGOs/social enterprises in Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai, and soon in Hyderabad and Delhi. Our success so far has encouraged us to use the tremendous scaling capability of many of our SVP Partners and leverage a larger network for this very noble national cause.”
SVP currently works with social organisations like Industree Foundation, Vrutti, The/Nudge Foundation & the Milestone Project of NES in their efforts to create large-scale livelihoods and all of these organisations will be a part of the Million Jobs Mission.
Madan Padaki, Co-founder & Trustee of Head Held High Foundation and Co-Convener of the Million Jobs Mission said “The Million Jobs Mission will consist of Program Design Partners with global credentials & perspectives and Funding agencies to enable scaling (as Consortium Partners) and Social Organisations that have proven, potentially scalable job-creation models.”
“We already have terrific consortium partners like McKinsey Social Initiative’s Generation Program, SPJIMR Mumbai, Samhita Social Ventures on board and expect to enrol over a many more such partners in the next few months,” he added.
Tim Schottman, the CEO of SVP International, who was visiting India from the SVP HQ at Seattle said, “In less than four years, the activity at SVP India chapters is just phenomenal. I strongly sense that with the calibre of our own partners, the depth and ubiquity of issues to address, and SVP India’s pervasive theme of livelihoods, the Million Jobs Mission can become a game changer triggering transformational change. We will be watching the India initiative closely for scalable, sustainable impact.”
SVP India now invites social organizations with plans to create 1,000,000+ jobs in the next 5 years, to apply to be a part of this Mission. The selected organisations will get capacity building support, mentoring from SVP/ Consortium Partners as well as access to funding. They will also be a part of the SVP Annual Million Jobs Mission Conclave to be held in New Delhi in January 2017. For more details, send an email to email@example.com
