Meet Kenji Hosokawa.

SVP Partner, Kenji Hosokawa

My name is Kenji Hosokawa and I am a corporate attorney based in Tokyo, Japan. I joined SVP in 2015 after learning about it from a lawyer friend. Around that time, I had growing doubts about whether my pro bono work as an attorney had any meaningful impact. SVP appealed to me because of its philosophy of generating social impact by scaling the work of the most innovative social entrepreneurs.

What experiences have inspired you the most?

Since joining SVP, I have been involved in various projects, including serving as a mentor for social entrepreneurs and providing pro bono legal support to SVP portfolio organizations. I am also a member of the SVP Tokyo Board of Directors.

SVP is special to me because it has allowed me to use my professional skills for organizations that are doing great work. I’ve also connected with many partners who are serious about changing the world for the better. Working with every organization selected by SVP has been a deeply rewarding experience because of the opportunity to work directly and closely with social entrepreneurs and other partners. And those relationships last forever.

For instance, the first organization I helped after joining SVP was Pirika Inc., which has developed an anti-litter smartphone app, an AI-based litter mapping technology app.

What do you want to work on next?

The world’s most pressing social issues are systemic and structural. We need to work together to create change. Our SVP Community has over 3000 partners who are working together to make this happen. I’m excited to be a part of the effort to transform this network into a movement for justice.
