Cathy joined SVPI in June 2017 and works closely with the CEO to ensure that all programs, operations, communications and development functions of SVPI are aligned for greatest efficiency, effectiveness and impact, and that the team is cohesive and highly functioning.
Prior to joining SVPI, Cathy was Voter Education and Outreach Director for Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conversation Voters, managing grassroots advocacy for environmental issues and candidates across Washington state. While there she facilitated an inclusive process to write the organizations’ first racial equity action plan, and served as Outreach Director for the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy, a broad coalition of labor, environmental, health, business, faith and community of color organizations working to pass an equitable and efficient price on carbon pollution. She conducted nonpartisan voter participation tests to learn what actions resulted in higher voting rates among communities color, and supported the Environmental Priorities Coalition annual legislative agenda with communications and grassroots lobbying at the state capital.
Before this role Cathy served as a city council member for a mid-sized city in NW Washintgon, managed a land use advocacy organizing protecting farmland, delivered programs and events for a national local business network, and supported numerous community based environmental and economic development nonprofit organizations.
Cathy grew up in Seattle and earned a Masters in Social Entrepreneurship and Change from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. She has BA in Communications from Western Washington University and a Certificate of Sustainable Business from Presidio Graduate School.
In her free time, Cathy enjoys exploring the joys of Seattle with her partner Dave and their black lab/German Shepard mix, Cash. She loves yoga, cooking and spending time in her backyard whenever the sunshine comes out.
