During the past decade, Social Venture Partners Pittsburgh has invested nearly $1 million in fledgling nonprofit organizations that take a new and innovative approach to solving social problems in the region. Among those that have benefited from the group’s money and expertise are Homewood Children’s Village Literacy Program; Three Rivers Mothers’ Milk Bank; and Assemble, a Garfield-based nonprofit that integrates creativity and learning in the arts, sciences and technology. Community leaders delivered a series quick pitches on their innovative programs, highlighting what they need to take impact to the next level. SVP Investee Update: 412 Food Rescue at it again!

Happy to announce 412 Food Rescue's partnership with Zipcar set to roll out this spring. This solves one of the deterrents to recruiting millennials to participate in our initiative. This launches in tandem with our effort in universities that we successfully piloted at Chatham in the past few weeks. Looking forward to a wider launch in August when the next school year begins. Think Tankathon: Success!

With over 50 people registered, representing both the for-profit and nonprofit communities, the night was off to a great start! Elizabeth Visnic, SVP Executive Director, kicked off the conversation with a quick introduction about what SVP does and what the goals of our first Think Tankathon were. Next, we opened the floor to nonprofit leaders from Amachi Pittsburgh, CameroonFDP, and Earthen Vessels Outreach to share their missions and the current barriers they face with the audience.
