On 17 October SVP Melbourne hosted guests from all walks of life to learn about Impact Investing. Investing with a heart. Angela Perry, Convenor of the social impact investing working group of the Prime Minister’s Community and Business partnerships committee, demystified the global and local landscape probably surprising many. Impact investors want their investment to do good but want a competitive rate of return as well. We learnt that while this is a capital return expectation it may be offset by a measurable social return.
So the challenge for budding impact investors and social impact organisations is measuring and demonstrating social return on investment, SROI. Social Venture Partners Melbourne’s current capacity assessment and building program offers a great way to do this for the venture philanthropist wanting to know their investments make a social impact.
