About Social Innovation Fast Pitch
“I’m an Eagle Scout, an ex-convict, a recovering heroin addict, and the founder and creative director of BTS Communications.”
With those words, John Sullivan had his audience riveted.
John had a great idea. His organization provides on-the-job training to Beit T’Shuvah rehab facility residents, preparing them for a successful future post-recovery. He also had an amazing story to tell, but he was not a natural speaker. After two months of coaching through SVP’s Fast Pitch in Los Angeles, he won $12,500 in funding. But that was just the beginning. “Winning the Fast Pitch really changed the way the community looked at us,” says John. “It changed my idea of who I was…it changed my capacity to understand success.”
Within a year of his Fast Pitch win, BTS received a $250,000 gift from the Jewish Community Foundation.
The Social Innovation Fast Pitch is a free two-month communication skills training program for nonprofits that are creating lasting social change in Greater Los Angeles. The program trains nonprofit leaders to powerfully communicate their story, and connects them with leaders in the business, philanthropic, and nonprofit communities who can help them achieve their goals.
Incarnations of the SVP Fast Pitch have now spread through eleven other SVP cities, providing mentoring for hundreds of innovative nonprofit leaders who are out to change the world. They learn how to powerfully tell their stories and refine their ideas and strategies – unleashing their full potential.
