SVP Pune has partnered with investee Anjuman-I-Islam to launch the ‘Needle-women on call’ initiative. The initiative aims to train and employ women from the community as tailoring aids, alteration experts, or even for some to start their own small businesses. They are now in the process of forming a group of 24 women with art, expertise and need.
Ruby Jhunjhunwala, lead partner for Anjuman invited Sunaina Sood, a fashion designer based in Bangalore to conduct a special session on recycling leftover materials for creating simple accessories for the girls to learn and build their skills.
SVP Lead Partner Bharati Goidani conducted an art therapy session with the students in January. The session was extremely well received, and turned out to be a humbling experience for partners when many of the girls came out with their stories of struggle, grit and determination that reflected their sheer zest for life.
