Social Venture Partners Dallas (SVP Dallas) is proud to announce its 2018 Investees: NTARUPT and Readers 2 Leaders, and a special 2018 grant made to Dollars for College, a program of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Communities Foundation of Texas.
Every year, SVP Dallas makes unrestricted grants to nonprofit organizations that have gone through the SVP Dallas Advisee process, wherein organizational leaders are equipped with tools and resources to grow their organization’s capacity. Our Social Venture Partners–the community of business, civic, and philanthropic leaders who make up SVP Dallas–form a team to come alongside each Advisee and offer their expertise and effort to impact the organization’s mission. After a year of being an Advisee, organizations are eligible to apply for a grant from SVP Dallas, the receipt of which makes them an Investee. Grantmaking decisions are made by the Portfolio Review Committee of SVP Dallas, a committee comprised entirely of Social Venture Partners.
Our 2018 Investees
Ntarupt has been awarded a $10,000 grant from SVP Dallas in 2018, which follows multiple awards in previous years. Ntarupt, or the North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens, builds community resources such as medically accurate sexuality education and links teens to necessary resources, such as after-school programming, counseling, mentoring, primary health care, and social services. We are proud to support the mission and programming of Ntarupt. Read more about SVP Dallas and Ntarupt.
Readers 2 Leaders has been awarded a $20,000 grant from SVP Dallas in 2018, which follows previous grants in 2016 and 2018. This organization helps children in historically marginalized areas develop their reading and language skills to become life-long readers, learners, and leaders. Through their programming, children reading below grade level are offered the enrichment they need to improve their skills and succeed in school. We are proud to support the mission and programming of Readers 2 Leaders. Read more about SVP Dallas and Readers 2 Leaders.
At certain times, SVP Dallas makes special grants outside the standard Advisee/Investee process to programs and organizations we believe are making an outsized, measurable impact on issues of equity, and systemic injustices.
This year, SVP Dallas has chosen to award a $10,000 grant to the Dollars for College program, created in partnership between the Communities Foundation of Texas and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. While 65% of jobs in Texas will require post-secondary education by 2020, only 21% of Dallas ISD students currently complete a post-secondary degree within 6 years of high school graduation. Improving college graduation rates for Dallas ISD students is an issue of systemic poverty in our community. Dollars for College is a matched savings program that builds college savings for children growing up in poverty. Children who grow up with even a small college savings account are four times more likely to graduate than those who do not. We are proud to support the growth of this new initiative in our community.
