Art House, Inc. is a grassroots, nonprofit arts center located in historic Brooklyn Centre, between the Ohio City and Old Brooklyn neighborhoods of Cleveland, Ohio. Local artists and residents, dedicated to the belief that the arts enrich lives and create better communities, founded the organization in 1999. Our 3,000 square foot studio facility is housed in a 1948 domed, Quonset building. Our mission is to make art accessible to people of all ages and skill levels in Brooklyn Centre and the Greater Cleveland community by providing quality instruction, encouragement, and facilities. By fulfilling this mission, Art House stabilizes our neighborhood and creates opportunities for artists to thrive. By extension, the organization contributes significantly in the creation of Cleveland as a culturally rich and economically viable destination to live, work and raise a family.
Art House’s neighborhoods are diverse communities that includes Hispanic (28%), African American (25%), Asian (1%), Caucasian (54%), and other ethnicities (11%). From an economic standpoint approximately 32% of the families live below the poverty level. There are also middle class professionals who are long-time residents devoted to the neighborhood.
Art House has been able to achieve great impact with incredibly limited resources. With a staff of four (1 FT, 3 PT) and a small, but dedicated board, we have continued to maximize the investment of each supporting organization by serving over 3000 children and adults annually.
